Bloomington - Frederick C. Voelzke, Jr., 85, of Bloomington, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 12, 2017 in Bloomington-Normal.

Fred was born April 5, 1932, in Chicago, the son of Frederick Sr. and Mary Ann Auten Voelzke ( Ma Bell). He married Diane Irwin on May 8, 1959. She preceded him in death on August 10, 2008.

Surviving are their children; Frederick (Alice) Voelzke III; David (Jeanie) Voelzke; Eric (Sheri) Voelzke; and Susan (Greg) Beecher, all of Bloomington; grandchildren, Samantha and Rachel Voelzke; Adrian (Katy)Voelzke; Christian Voelzke; Jack Beecher; and grand cats, Weeble and...

Bloomington - Frederick C. Voelzke, Jr., 85, of Bloomington, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 12, 2017 in Bloomington-Normal.

Fred was born April 5, 1932, in Chicago, the son of Frederick Sr. and Mary Ann Auten Voelzke ( Ma Bell). He married Diane Irwin on May 8, 1959. She preceded him in death on August 10, 2008.

Surviving are their children; Frederick (Alice) Voelzke III; David (Jeanie) Voelzke; Eric (Sheri) Voelzke; and Susan (Greg) Beecher, all of Bloomington; grandchildren, Samantha and Rachel Voelzke; Adrian (Katy)Voelzke; Christian Voelzke; Jack Beecher; and grand cats, Weeble and Killagrew; two sisters, Marcella Calderon and Margaret Komoll; and a brother-in-law, Larry Thompson. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary; and three brothers, George, Jack, and Pat.

Fred served in the United States Air Force and Army. He was very proud to be a military veteran, retiring in 1994 after 23 years of service. During Fred's free time, he enjoyed sports car racing and electronics. Later in life, he worked at Heartland Community College where he tutored students in the IT Department, he even had a Mars Rover named after him - Fred Rover.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, November 18, 2017 at East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
